Chapter - 8 When Death Hugs

Chapter – 8
When Death Hugs
I didn’t stop to see sense, I jumped in the water. I knew how to open my eyes in the water so I could see Bill easily. Unfortunately, I could also see what was beneath him and that ‘thing’ almost paralyzed me. It was a extra-deep underwater crevice in which some red light and bubbles were coming out. Bill was falling (or sinking) inside it! He went in inside it and I saw a black shadow creep up beside me. I panicked (that’s the only time I am going to admit it). The shadow was Jack; he had dived in too. I went inside it too. And when I was in it I panicked again because Bill was hanging on to a piece of rock which came off the edge of the crevice as I entered it and there was an underwater active volcano underneath him (that gave off the red light). I could see that Bill couldn’t hold his breath any more, he fainted. Jack immediately swam under him and I followed suit. It was getting hotter and hotter, we were about to be boiled alive. Suddenly, I saw a metal object flung into the lava with a rope attached to it. In less time than it takes to tell Jack and I had realized that Martha had flung down the anchor of the boat to help us and stop the boat from going down the whirlpool. We climbed up the rope and got into the boat. It seemed that metamorphosis had taken place. The ocean had spent its fury. The wind didn’t exist and a sudden mist had emerged. Bill had now revived. He was holding something in his hand. It was the piece of rock which he had been clinging to. He said a few words to tell us why he was holding it,” Blue sand… only found in Kimberley… diamond mine… here… blue sand… look… rock.” From this we gathered that he had seen blue sand here and we all knew that blue sand was also found in Kimberley diamond mine. This meant that Bill that Bill had clung to the weakest rock in order to get a specimen. When we examined the rock, it had 5 diamonds on its exterior and many more in its interior. “Never do that again.” Martha warned Bill (who had fainted). Anyway it’s time to quote the old saying-
“All’s well that ends well”

Chapter - 7 And finally...

Chapter – 7
And finally…
When I think over all the circumstances that had finally led to our doom, I think we were luckily lucky, yeah this might sound a little stupid but  still, it’s true. Now for the explanation – As I mentioned before, we all were warned that some seismic activity was taking place under King’s Rocks, there was no danger, but when the earthquake came, it made a small crack in the feed pipe of an underwater volcano, that too wasn’t dangerous, but when the lightning struck it made little explosions. That was like adding a nuclear bomb to the fire…
When we were out on the boat the lightning thing happened, but, Mother Nature wasn’t done with us and the little boat yet. Bill was the person who was most affected by the lightning, so he leaned over one side and said,” Cool.” Almost simultaneously a fin was to be seen piercing the water, heading for our boat. Shark! Poll began to screech and squawk, he suddenly took off heading to the mainland. I always know when animals sense trouble and become a shouting machine in their own tongue, this was a sign that trouble was coming. I was also watching the fin; it stopped and sort of trembled and ran (or rather swam) towards the open ocean at full throttle. Suddenly everything went calm and quiet as if it were afraid of making any noise that might trigger something. When we were rowing to the main land to get a little refreshed a loud noise came to us as if something had exploded under the water and a huge mountain of water rose up behind us and threw us mercilessly on towards the mainland. As if on cue the stillness disappeared and a whirlpool appeared in front of us. No need to say this with fright or enthusiasm because this was just a thousandth part of the trouble we actually were in. The boat went round and round the side of the whirlpool and Bill fell overboard due to centrifugal force. Bill couldn’t swim. He was drowning…drowning…

Chapter - 6 Thunderstorm

Chapter – 6
Thunderstorm
Everything was later explained to me – Before I fainted, Jack had grabbed my leg and began to shout for help, in a split second, the others had also joined the struggle and then the Rex appeared on the scene… (No further explanation is needed)
We didn’t have much time to celebrate my deliverance from death for after 15 minutes after I was rescued, we set of to the jetty in order to hire a boat for a pleasant cruise on the ocean. After about 3 minutes we were in a boat named ‘The Jolly Adventurer’ and were sailing peacefully. Almost as we set out, dark clouds began to gather and soon the rain began. We immediately hastened shoreward. We were in a difficult position for the current was trying to make us go into the ocean! After about 10 minutes struggle, the lightning began and began with an extraordinary happening for all of us, the lightning struck the water! The current split into thousands of other tiny currents and for about a second, a bright blue shining root seemed to be in the water. When the ends of the ‘root’ touched the seafloor (which we all could clearly see) some sort of tiny explosions seemed to take place whenever they touched the bottom. We were all dazed as the storm lost its power and it stopped raining. When we came to ourselves, we realized that we were about to capsize the boat because we all had leaned over one side when the lightning struck. We all decided that we would not tell our parents this. By now you might be wondering why two natural disasters took place simultaneously in one place in one day, its explanation will be given in the next chapter.

Chapter 5 Earthquake

Chapter – 5
Earthquake
The next day we had our first adventure. After the morning’s breakfast, the old woman warned us that a news had been broadcasted in the morning, warning the residence of King’s Rocks that some seismic activity had been detected under their island and they feared that it was a volcano, a underwater volcano. She told us that we should not go near the sea today as the waves were abnormally rough. At this Bill said (shivering due fright) that we should just go for a walk on the cliffs today. Soon enough we were stumbling along the (unusually) sandy path that was on the cliff with Poll (the parrot in the last chapter) randomly sitting on our shoulders and sometimes flying on ahead. Suddenly, we saw the Rex marching down the cliff we were climbing, we had to cross. We couldn’t let that happen, he hadn’t seen us yet and we hoped he wouldn’t till our vacation here. I spotted a little house on one edge of the cliff and got the bright idea of hiding behind it as there was space about 1 meter behind it. We all cramped up behind the house just as we heard the marching of the Rex passing by us. Jack heard it first (not the marching of the Rex), it was a deep rumbling noise which grew louder and louder till the ground beneath us began to shake, but no it didn’t stop at that, no, definitely not it grew bigger and bigger. And Bill screamed,” EARTHQUAKE!” And just and that moment, the ground beneath me gave way and I caught the end of my pants in a root projecting from the cliff. I was hanging upside down with just my pants saving me from bashing on the rocks below. I had worn a bigger pair of pants than my size and they were coming off! I fainted. All I knew that when I woke up, the Rex was looming up on me and saying,” Ah, he’s all right.” I soon spotted Jack, Bill and Martha. I remember asking them,” Am I dead?”
